MEET DR. RYAN SANTOS

Lead School Counselor & Student Advocate

Dr. Ryan Santos believes everyone is resilient!  Ryan began his journey as a school counselor over 14 years ago because he believed that school counselors play a critical role in helping students and families bounce back from life’s adversities.  He is dedicated to creating caring and safe spaces for students to learn, providing meaningful opportunities for students to discover their life’s purpose, and empowering students to dream big!

While he was born in the City of Angles, Ryan considers himself a San Diego native.  Ryan received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego with a major in Ethnic Studies and a minor in Teacher Education.  After graduating from UCSD, he worked as a case manager for a teen pregnancy prevention program in Mid City.   Soon after, Ryan graduated from San Diego State University’s Community Based-Block Program (CBB) and School Counseling Program obtaining his masters degree in Counseling with a specialization in School Counseling.  More recently, Dr. Santos obtained a Ph.D. in Education from Claremont Graduate University and SDSU joint doctoral program with an emphasis in democratic schooling and social justice.

In addition to working as school counselor, Dr. Santos has taught graduate level courses for SDSU’s School Counseling, Community-Based Block (CBB), School Psychology, and Marriage and Family Therapy Programs and the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Educational Sciences program.  While Dr. Santos has supervised over 50 school counseling interns, he still believes that he has much to learn.

When Dr. Santos is not working with students and families at Bayfront, you can find him quality spending time with his family and friends, playing tennis, doing yoga, hanging out at the beach, traveling somewhere new, or simply enjoying a good meal at one of his many favorite restaurants.

Dr. Santos is honored to be a part of the Bayfront family and is eager to support students in attaining their college and career dreams!
